Finally, Auntie and I got a day officially on the calendar, and after months and months of waiting - Harps came bounding into our bedroom shouting "IT'S AMERICAN GIRL DAY!!!!"  Harper has been practicing her patience since June, when her birthday present was discussed - at length - and decided upon.
We would travel to MOA, meet up with our cousins, spend the day with our dolls - have lunch and get their hair done - then return to have the most epic cousin sleep over/play with our doll day EVER!

To me, this whole this bringing your doll to lunch, and sending it to the salon was weird.  But I was totally down with a cousin sleepover.  And, this sweet face was convincing me the doll day would be more fun then weird.
And it was - we shopped, and lunched and celebrated H's June birthday in October.  The smiles said it all, and Harper and Gracie begged to do this more often.  Maybe we could do "doll day" once a month!?

And then, we went home and an amazing thing happened.  As soon as we got to the house - those littles who are not so little anymore -  scampered away to play with each other and without any adult assistance or interaction needed.  The grown-ups made eye contact, high fived each other, and yelled "We'll be back in a couple hours!!"
Harps, you may just be on to something... Cheers to a monthly doll day!
