A visit from the vortex

Going on day six at home with the ninja and the gnome. First, it was the flu bug (x2), then the Polar Vortex decided to pay us another visit. Dangerously low temperatures and nasty blowing winds has kept us homebound. Usually, I would have no problem with this, as home is pretty much my favorite place ever. But, this combination of flu, working working partner, and the vortex has begun to wear me down. And today, I began to nag.

Clean your room.
Did you brush your teeth? Do you need a reminder every day?
Just go and play. Anything. Downstairs.
Stop being so contrary.
Do you need a nap?
Do you think I fold your clothes for fun? This one even made me cringe, so I took a breath and walked away. I knew I had had enough, and those little people did, too.
When I walked back upstairs, sweet, sweet Bennett was reading to Harper. He looked at me and said, "Just doing my reading, mom. Harper is turning the pages for me."

Talk about a reality check from the seven year old.  Sometimes I need to be reminded not to spend so much time being concerned about raising good kids, that I forget I already have them. Thanks, little dude.

Signature, please.

She's working on signing on the line, but H's name is coming along nicely! And, she can zip her own coat. Ms. Kelli deserves a raise, and a gold star and the congressional Medal of Honor.

Hello, my name is Gina. And, I have an addiction.

Andy is always on my case about my beloved iPhone. He rolls his eyes when ever it makes a sound. (And, he wonders why I keep it on 'silent' mode.) He thinks I would die if I didn't have access to it for any length of time. (He's probably right.)

But, seriously. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE IN THE FAMILY WITH A DEVICE ADDICTION!!!

Resolutions

In addition to my regular resolution to stop biting my finger nails, I've decided to add a few more. One is to be more timely with my blogging. Another is to read more books, and another to continue my quest to crochet as many different things as possible. Also, I'm going to run some races. I have officially registered for a 7k and a half marathon. I'm not really telling people, because I'm actually quite nervous about it. And, not that confident. Good thing not many people read this publication...

While the training has begun, it can be difficult some days. Like today. "Just run, mommy. Just run between my legs!!"

AP is so agreeable.

"Daddy, I think we should build an igloo, like the Eskimos."
"Yes!  Let's do it."

"Andy, I think we should drink Moscow Mules - like from Old Capital Tavern."
"Yes. Let's do it!"
