The latest project at 1407 included a bunch of dots. Terrin sent me a few examples of paint-chip art, and we decided that art would be the perfect piece for the entrance to suburbia. We did our obligatory pinterest and google research, and then scheduled a weekend for our (now pretty regular) warrior session. First we needed to get the materials, which included a 4x8 sheet of wood, some spray adhesive, modge-podge (which was an epic failure - if you try this - stick with the glue. Ha ha!! Stick with the glue!), beer and paint chips. The most delicate and difficult part of the material gathering step was convincing the boy that we were not actually stealing the paint-chips. And, in order to keep my conscious clear, I did make sure to buy something from each store, right after I jammed the diaper bag full of samples.
In one of the final moments of the Tahoe, we brought everything home.
Over the next several hours, we punched circles, and drank beer, and played with the kids.
As evening approached, and the children finally slept, we began the process of gluing the dots - one by one - on the board. This was a tedious project. We talked about life, laughed at our husbands, solved all the problems of the world, and created an organic masterpiece.
The following morning, after the dots and glue had dried, we brought AP to the depot to get materials for the frame. We purchased some white door trim, and decorative square end pieces (which I'm certain have an official carpenter-y name, but I have not idea what that is...). AP brought in the ladder and the measuring tape (after much coaxing from T), and began the precarious climb up the wall.
It was a feat, but working together we can accomplish anything. I'd like to be clear, that my role of making sure the kids were in a safe location, out of all harm, and snacking, was by far the most difficult. AP and T simply had to lift the 8 foot board, balance it in thin air, and glue it on the wall, while climbing up to the top of the ladder, and leaning over the railing.
When Bennett saw the newly installed art, he said, "That's phenomenal, Mommy!!!". I'd have to agree.
